Tun Dato Seri Bin Tun Azmi has vast experience in legal field. He retired as the Chief Justice of Malaysia in September 2011. Upon retirement, he was appointed Chairman of KRU Group of Companies and Astro Malaysia Holdings Berhad as well as Director of various public and private companies. Summarised below are his working experience and achievements:

- Barrister at Law, Lincoln's Inn Called to the English Bar in 1969 and admitted as Advocate & Solicitor, High 
  Court Malaya in 1983;
- Attorney General's Chambers December from 1969 to 1970; 
- Magistrate in Kuala Lumpur from 1970 to 1971;
- President of Sessions Court Ipoh from 1971 to 1973;
- Federal Counsel in the Drafting Division of the Attorney General's Chambers from 1973 to 1976;
- Senior Federal Counsel, Ministry of Home Affairs from 1976 to 1984;
- Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya on in 1983;
- Senior Partner of Messrs Shahrizat Rashid & Lee Advocate & Solicitor from 1985 to 2007;
- Federal Court Judge and the President of Court of Appeal in 2007;
- The 12th Chief Justice of Malaysia from 2008 till his retirement on 11 September 2011;
- Chief Justice of Dubai International Financial Center Court in 2018;
- Professor Adjunct for various universities in Malaysia since 2012;
- Chancellor of MAHSA University College and Multimedia University (MMU) and Pro Chancellor of USIM;
- Chairman University Malaysia Sabah from 2013 to 2018;
- Member of Commission on Improvement of The Royal Malaysian Police Force;
- Chairman of Commission on the Civil Service Transformation Commission in 2012;
- Chairman of Commission on Leakages of UPSR Examination Papers;
- Founder of Tun Azmi Foundation;
- President Of Lincolns Inn Alumni Association;
